It is with respect that I have studied the work of Grandmother Twylah for her lifetime of service to the teachings of the Wolf Clan and the children of Mother Earth. The book, Medicine Cards, is for Ya-weh-node, She Whose Voice Rides the Wind.
The other day, I was delighted to see a black bear move across the forest in the lower part of our property. What a magnificent creature among the tall grass. We seldom see a bear this close to the house, and I knew there was a message in his unexpected arrival. Next to my computer, I found my book on animal energy and began to read. “The strength of Bear Medicine is the power of introspection.” I smiled at the word introspection for it is what I try to do at the end of each day, usually when soaking in a bathtub of bubbles and staring out the window at an evening sky and the forest beyond. The book says that introspection lies in the West on what is said to be the great medicine wheel of life. The West is where our goals reside. As I read on, I learned that the honey the bear seeks is the sweetness of truth found in the hollow of a tree. The Ice Queen reigns in winter when the face of death is upon the Earth. During this time, the Bear enters the womb-cave to hibernate and to think about the year’s experiences.
In choosing Bear Energy, you are invited to seek silence and become acquainted with the Dream Lodge, so that your goals may become concrete realities. The strength of Bear encourages you to dream your dreams in silence and own them. With this strength, you will be ready to discover the honey found in the hollow of the Tree of Life.
Medicine Cards by Jamie & David Carson is a wonderful journey if you choose to gain insight through the ways of the animals. I enjoy insightful thoughts wherever I can get them. As October blesses us with its paint brush of beauty, it also reminds us to prepare for the Ice Queen of winter, when I love to hibernate with hot cocoa in front of the fireplace with my husband and grandson close by.
