I have always enjoyed the presence of autumn when a brisk breeze and colorful leaves heighten my senses to the anticipation of an upcoming Thanksgiving. I look forward to family and friends as we gather around a festive table that depicts the season. I can already hear the laughter, jokes, and thoughtful moments where we pause and question what may affect our lives in the upcoming days ahead. During this time of thankfulness, I am reminded of how lucky I am to be born in the USA, where I have experienced the blessing of the freedom to grow, learn, and achieve my dreams without persecution. While growing up, I would sit spellbound as I heard stories of my immigrant grandparents from Italy, Germany, and France, stories of the Roaring Twenties, the Great Depression, World War II and its many horrors. I imagined what I would have done while living during those challenging times. Would I be the hero of my life or follow other people’s values like sheep fearful of being defined by my own?
My sister, Linda Joyce, is recognized as one of seven of the best astrologers in the world. What an amazing accomplishment, and what a beautiful and impressive woman she has become. When I heard Pluto was entering Aquarius, I asked Linda what that meant for me since Aquarius is my birth sign. She told me that Pluto would signal intense and transformative shifts in my professional realm. It would also direct me toward realigning my goals and aspirations for success. I will find myself wanting to do more so I can leave behind a significant mark on the world. Then Linda said, “But,” and I sit up. “If you want to achieve your goals you must delve into your purpose in life and that means going deeply into your subconscious.” As we talked further, I was filled with hope and the promise of challenges that I was anxious to acknowledge and learn from. Whether you believe in astrology or not, it never hurts to open your mind to a different way of thinking. You never know what spiritual treasure you can find.
This Thanksgiving I want to give thanks to the men and women who fought for our freedoms in this country and a special prayer for world peace. It always amazes me that gratitude changes everything, and turns what we already have into enough.
